Our Story
Twenty-two years ago, when Florrie and Seymour Morgenstern first mobilized their friends to create Spanish River Concerts, the vision was to present four concerts for the shared enjoyment of their community. A legacy was created that was the natural extension of Florrie’s lifelong love of music – a love that was born from her humble beginnings growing up in a single-parent household.
Despite enormous financial limitations, Florrie’s mother Minnie, determined to expose her to some of the finer things life had to offer, found a piano teacher who agreed to provide lessons at a price that she could manage. This generous gesture gave wings to Florrie’s profound love of music. Perhaps as important, this experience instilled in her the belief that everyone should be afforded the opportunity to enjoy the arts, regardless of financial means.
Since that first season, Spanish River Concerts continues to present world-class concerts each winter. The generosity of others continues to lend its mark of distinction to the community that was born from Florrie’s idea. Through the efforts of many, SRC has become an organization on which thousands depend as a meaningful source of social and artistic enjoyment. Florrie and Seymour are gone now, but their son Jeff continues the legacy as Executive Director, managing the SRC team.
